Projects at the GWDC
When completed, the new Bear Den will give the Center an opportunity to house up to eight additional bears including a new species for the GWDC – black bears. The new dens will also add flexibility to wildlife managers to place bears in need of a home. We intend to function as an option for bears that require temporary human care before being placed at another facility permanently. The dens will also be the first step toward saving more bears from being euthanized in the surrounding area. We have taken major steps forward with this project due to generous philanthropic support enabling all the utilities to be laid in place and concrete work to be done.
In addition, a new Bear Habitat is currently under construction on the remaining acre of undeveloped GWDC land. With continued financial support these important projects will continue to progress.
