Keek
Adoptions
Keek is a female Rough-legged Hawk that sustained a fractured right wing while she was in the wild. The cause of the injury is unknown, but she could no longer survive in the wild and needed to be placed in a captive facility. She came to the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center to help us educate the public about birds-of-prey. The name "Rough-legged" refers to the feathers that cover their legs to the base of the toes. These hawks are one of the few species that actually migrate to the Montana area in the winter, spending summers high in the Arctic region. One of the most recognizable traits of this hawk is the way it hovers over one spot in search of food. Keek feeds mostly on large rodents and is occasionally given elk and deer pieces of meat for a special treat.
